If you are looking for unique alien invasion stories, you’ve come to the right place because we have prepared some tales that we guarantee you will surely enjoy.

Bob Ticer, the author of THE ALIEN STRANGER, offers a unique story about an alien invasion that only a few writers in the sci-fi genre do. The protagonist of the science fiction tale is Kayla. She hits a football player on her bicycle commute to work and receives a gift of earrings. Her narrative then becomes more captivating.

Extraterrestrials typically invade Earth to kill, enslave, or consume people. We’ve never read a science fiction book where the aliens seemed out to exterminate every squirrel; it’s always humans, too. With that said, let’s check out some alien invasion science stories together!

1. Roadside Picnic by Boris and Arkady Strugatsky

Aliens have visited Earth in the recent past. Other than the oddly changed “zones” strewn with enigmatic artifacts, some wondrous and some lethal, they left no other traces. These things have no function, but they substantially impact everyone who comes into contact with them.

Red Schuhart is a “stalker” who makes a dangerous living by leading seekers of riches and thrills into the danger zone. This work, which Antonina W. Bouis translated from Russian, is contradictory in tone and full of false meanings, just like other Soviet science fiction.

2. Story of Your Life by Ted Chiang

One of the subtlest and most positive studies of language, time, and vision to be discovered in science fiction is in Chiang’s 1999 novella. To converse with the alien “heptapods” that have recently landed on Earth, linguist Louise Banks is working to solve the seemingly intractable language puzzle.

She is also coping with the loss of her daughter at the same time. Like in all of Chiang’s fiction, the plot develops by delving further into a stated reality—in this case, a completely alien language that appears to possess no human equivalent.

Arrival, a 2016 movie adaption directed by Denis Villeneuve, is a good movie, but Chiang’s original narrative is better since it engages the mind and the heart equally well.

3. THE ALIEN STRANGER by Bob Ticer

THE ALIEN STRANGER is a unique story about an alien invasion that revolves around Kayla. On her way to work on her bicycle, Kayla collides with a football player, who presents her earrings. THE ALIEN STRANGER then uses hummingbird drones to spy on her and add cash to her savings account, which was taken from drug cartels.

If you want a unique tale of alien invasion, then THE ALIEN STRANGER is a good read. Here are some excerpts:

“I’m Kayla Chalet, not looking for a fray, but what can I say?”

“Hey,” he finally replied, “show me the way to a nice fish filet and I’ll be a poet someday.”

“Ten trillion dollars,” he blurted. “It’s from the Federal Treasury.”

4. Lagoon by Nnedi Okorafor

The humorous, almost filmic narrative of an alien mission to the town of Lagos by Okorafor feels unlike any other alien invasion fiction you may have read before, what with its rapid-fire tessellations and jump cuts.

Science fiction and fantasy coexist to create a vibrant, beautiful hybrid brimming with clever postmodernist flourishes. There are chapters recounted from the perspectives of non-human beings and snippets of journalism. There are even instances where Okorafor breaks the fourth wall to speculate on how readers may have responded if they had been present.

Lagoon is an exuberantly experimental novel that sparkles with the madness and mayhem that one might anticipate from an alien encounter.

5. How High We Go in the Dark by Sequoia Nagamatsu

The extraterrestrial in this story was a primordial virus that climate change-related permafrost melting had allowed to escape onto Earth.

Its story is about a collection of interconnected chapters that start with the virus’ discovery and move through time to show how the ensuing epidemic irrevocably changes the world—and frequently for the worse—makeup Nagamatsu’s delicate, affecting novel.
